Experience the Greenlandic wilderness

Established in 2022, Camp Kangiusaq offers safe access to Greenland’s wilderness with guided outdoor activities, the comfort of luxury tents, hot meals and an experienced team of guides and camp staff.

There is no phone signal or guest WiFi in the camp. A perfect setting to tune out from the world for a day or two and focus on yourself, nature and the people you care about.

How does the camp operate?

To get to Camp Kangiusaq, you join our Nuuk Water Taxi boats for a stunning 2.5 hour ride to the camp.

We always depart Nuuk at 0900 to arrive at the camp for lunch. On departure day, we leave the camp at 1200, and arrive  in Nuuk at around 1430.

We depart from the Tidal Steps in Nuuk and arrive at our charming wooden pontoon, a short walk from the camp.

A large communal tent lies at the centre of the camp. This is where all meals are served, where you will find our bar and shop, and where you are always welcome to relax, to enjoy a hot or cold drink and chat with camp staff. This is also where we check in and out.

During your stay there will be plenty of opportunity to join guided kajak, fishing and hiking tours or to explore the camp and the surrounding area on your own.

There will also be ample time to enjoy the majestic scenery from the quiet and comfort of your own luxury tent.

All meals and hot drinks are included in the stay.

Icebergs

The Nuuk Fiord is the second largest fjord system in the world and a great place to spot icebergs!

We built our camp deep in the Nuuk fiord, near the glaciers that fill our fiords with icebergs, ensuring that icebergs would be a part of the experience when travelling to, and staying in, our camp.

The boat trip to Camp Kangiusaq is in itself a fantastic experience, equivalent to an Icefiord Cruise

Wildlife

During the summer months, our fiords are home to one of the largest mammals on the planet -  The Humpback Whale.

From June to September, the humpback whale is a common sight in the Nuuk Fiord, you may even get a chance to see them on the boat tour to or from Camp Kangiusaq. There are also wild caribou roaming nearby, seals among the icebergs, and a rich birdlife, with several small bird-cliffs near our camp.

It is also thought to be the breeding site of the only pair of White Gyr Falcons in the Nuuk Fiord. It has been said that the falcon is a great Angakkoq (Shaman) that resides atop the mountain we view from camp.

If you love spotting wildlife, you could also add a dedicated Whale Safari or Puffin Watching Tour to your booking.

HIKING

Camp Kangiusaq offers several hiking opportunities, with tours of between 2 and 22km.

Hiking here is not like anywhere else in the world. The area does not have any marked trails (the only trails you'll find are wildlife highways) and the likelihood of meeting other hikers is next to none.

We guide some shorter tours of around 2 hrs and some longer tours of around 5hrs. The longer tours are only possible for guests staying 2 or more nights. If you'd like to go for a solo hike, our camp staff can give you an idea of where to go, and will provide a GPS and satellite communication equipment.

If you are up for a bigger hiking adventure, check out our Butterfly Lake Expedition
